At the time of this writing, the Happy Yak Hiking socks are $44 per pair.
Happy Yak Hiker Comfort: 9/10

When I first put on these socks, I realized how sleek they were on the inside with a nice, comfortable finish.
They are constructed with 80% Yak cashmere and 20% acrylic. This combination makes it a nice, sleek yet comfortable feel.
While they are not as thick or as reinforced as the Darn Tough Hiker Full Cushion, they are still very comfortable during testing.
I even use these while trail running. I definitely feel the lightweight profile is better than a heavier sock build with merino wool.
Overall, these hiking socks are suitable for both hiking and trail running. I would recommend using these in the summer for trail running because they are so breathable and lightweight.
Warmth 8.5/10

I tested these during winter conditions, and while they did hold quite a good amount of warmth, the lack of merino wool was apparent.
These socks retain a good amount of heat in winter, but they are not thick enough to withstand very harsh winter conditions (20 degrees Fahrenheit).
The Happy Yak Hiking socks feature thicker material around the calf and ankle for better cold resistance.
Breathability 10/10

The only other hiking socks we have rated a 10/10 for breathability are the Darn Tough line.
Yak cashmere is extremely breathable compared to traditional merino wool socks. While trail running, they kept my feet nice and ventilated.
The material gets thinner towards the toe box area. This is where most people tend to get the most warmth.
I really think the Happy Yak Hiking Socks were engineered perfectly to maintain breathability while staying comfortable.
Durability 9/10
After testing these hiking socks, I haven’t noticed any rips or tears.
I am a little concerned because the material is quite thin around the metatarsal area. This could cause premature wear and thin out these socks real quick.
Otherwise, I haven’t noticed any durability issues during my testing.
Are Happy Yak Hiking Socks Worth It?

If you are looking for an alternative to merino wool hiking socks, the Happy Yak hiking socks are definitely the way to go.
They offer impressive breathability and lightweight cushioning that other merino wool hiking socks cannot match.
Though it is on the thinner side, these are perfect for summer hiking and/or trail running.
While $44 is on the more expensive side, Yak materials are much more expensive than Merino wool.
