In this article, I'm going to share my HONEST Darn Tough Light Hiker Micro Crew review for those who are wondering whether they are WORTH IT in 2024. Darn Tough makes excellent hiking socks. Lets see if the Light Hiker Micro Crew can make a great impression just as the Darn Tough Hiker Full Cushion did. 

For this review, I have put in over 50+ miles of hiking testing the Darn Tough Light Hiker socks, I mainly tested these hiking socks with my Hoka Kaha 2, Hoka Speedgoat 6 and Keen Targhee IV. I'll go over Comfort, Warmth, Breathability, and Durability. 

I'll be sharing my critical opinion with 10 years of experience in hiking and trekking throughout my life.

Darn Tough Light Hiker Comfort: 9.5/10

For such a lightweight version of the darn tough hiking sock brand, these are extremely comfortable. It is composed of 46% Merino wool, 54% nylon, and 3% spandex. The  increased blend of nylon is what gives these hiking socks such a lightweight feel. Compared to the Danish Endurance merino wool, these are even more lightweight.

What I enjoyed most about these hiking socks is the extra padding at the sole of the foot. You don't feel like you're putting any extra pressure on your foot while hiking. This helps with shock absorption thus increasing comfort. 

One area I did not love around the sock is near the achilles. that is where the increased padding starts to thin this is where I feel it is most needed. 

Moving towards the mid-calf of the sock the material gets slightly thicker however is still lightweight enough for great breathability and ventilation ability. Overall an extremely comfortable lightweight hiking sock. 

Warmth 8/10

The light hiker is great to use for three seasons of hiking,  fall spring and summer. This is not the most ideal hiking sock for the winter months as it does not have enough merino wool to keep you nice and warm. I was able to use these hiking socks down to 40°  weather and I was still warm enough, anything below that I think is best to go with a thicker merino wool blend such as the Smartwool classic. 

In addition, I was able to perform some trail running with the Hoka Speed Goat 6 as I mentioned before. This weather was in the 30s and I was adequately warm enough because I was moving so quickly. You may be able to get away with trail running in the winter with these hiking socks. 

Breathability 9/10

The Micro Crew has Excellent breathability and ventilating properties. Most of the composition of this hiking sock is nylon. While hiking in the summer and experience any sweaty feet actually felt there was amazing ventilation with these socks. 

I felt as if there is a cool breeze going between my calf and the sock as I was hiking. What makes this hiking sock so unique is the fact that it has amazing cushioning, yet  it still has the breathability properties of an active wear sock. this is very rare and unique and what makes the Light Hiker such a great choice. 

Durability 10/10

Boy, I was more than impressed with the durability of these hiking socks. most lightweight hikers made of nylon easily fall apart as it is such a fragile material.

Not with the Darn Tough Light Hiker, We didn't experience any sort of pulling or rips and tears. I've been over 50 miles hiking with these socks and have no need to get a new pair. I believe this is the best lightweight hiking sock you can purchase that will last you years. 

Is The Darn Tough Light Hiker Micro Crew Worth It?

If you want a hiking sock that is lightweight, extremely comfortable, versatile and will last you years this is the one to get. we rated this as one of the top hiking socks that are available on the market currently. They may not be as warm as the Smartwool classic or or as thin as Farm To Feet Demascus, but they outperform both. During our testing the Light Hiker was put through some harsh conditions and performed every time without any signs of breakdown. For a beginner to advanced hiker, this is one of the best hiking socks to invest in.
